The fight against terrorism requires the joint efforts of parliaments and the rejection of double standards. This was stated by the speaker of the state Duma Vyacheslav Volodin, reports TASS.
“The main threat to peace and security today is terrorism. To fight it is possible only together. Without double standards and hidden agendas, denying the terrorists the ideological soil and financial support”, – said Volodin, opening the second international forum “the Development of parliamentarism”.
According to him, it is necessary to use parliamentary resources in all countries to assist in the political and socio-economic reconstruction of the States affected by extremism and terrorism, primarily Syria.
Volodin also warned foreign colleagues from the practice of the parliamentary tourism and demagoguery.
“The task of the inter-parliamentary bodies – to do the development of solutions to the issues that concern our country. As we often see in practice that there are two extremes. On the one hand, this parliamentary tourism, on the other hand, the politicization and demagogic decisions,” he said.
The speaker also expressed the view that in a rapidly changing world legislators need to be proactive, creating a new legal space. In this regard, he pointed to the importance of the new inter-parliamentary formats. So, this year at the initiative of the state Duma and the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea will host the next meeting of speakers of parliaments of the countries of Eurasia.
“Showed that the annual conference on security and development of inter-regional cooperation involving Russia, China, Iran, Turkey, Pakistan, Afghanistan,” he said.
These formats allow to discuss topical issues of inter-parliamentary cooperation, signed Volodin.
