MONTREAL | carrier air Transat will use the grant to pay for emergency and recall its 4000 employees currently in temporary unemployment.
If the company announced Thursday his intention to claim a wage subsidy covering up to 75 % of the salary of the employees, however, it has insisted that no “provision of labour will be requested in the context of their recall”.
The carrier estimates that the measure will allow him to be better prepared to resume its regular activities after the crisis. In addition, employees will benefit from better compensation conditions.
“Lay off temporarily a large majority of our employees was a necessary decision, but heartbreaking. We are very pleased today to be able to offer them this possibility,” said Jean-Marc Eustache, president and chief executive officer of Transat.
Transat announced in march that the temporary suspension of its flights imposed by the pandemic COVID-19 and, in the process, the temporary lay-off of 70 % of its workforce. “Other layoffs were in addition then, to reach 80% of the workforce”, a-t was specified.
